Not long after the pandemic started, my husband and I started watching David Lynch’s daily weather report on YouTube. He lives in L.A. we don’t, but it isn’t about the weather in L.A. it’s about David Lynch. We also folded his project videos in when he would release one of those. He’s a crafty dude and makes all kinds of things. He doesn’t seem to let things go to waste. The man is a legend in his field, yet wears shirts with rips in them because he’s just working on projects, telling us the weather, and asking us to pick a number while he pulls one out of a jar he made for our enjoyment. Someone on a David Lynch group referred to it as “Cosmic Bingo” and I think that describes it perfectly. At one point he started making Friday’s weather reports more fun with his delivery, and I’m being 100% honest when I tell you that they make me giggle with delight every single Friday. It’s all beautiful and pure and exactly what we needed when we discovered it and something we continue to look forward to daily. The man is a goddamn treasure. You don’t have to be into his films, television, music, or various other art media (although I would argue he’s made something for everyone) to appreciate his daily YouTube posts. It’s a little dose of positivity that this cynic enjoys and it also helps remind me that not all of humanity is shit and he encourages everyone to get creative and start their own weekend project.
